Give Back Tuesday Donate Food
This week’s way to give back during the wedding is really simple and only requires a little effort on the bride’s part (hip hip hooray!).
We all know there’s usually a lot of food at weddings, especially if it’s a buffet. An easy way to give back to your local community, then, is to have the leftover food donated to a local kitchen**.
To do this, you’ll simply need to get in touch with your caterer and make the request. If the caterer refuses, well they suck (I kid, I kid). No, I would then suggest asking for you to be able to take the leftover food (meaning you’d have to figure out the transportation/deliver, but if you have a DOC…use them!).
It’s all about making these requests known and spelling them out in the contract, ya dig?
Oh, and don’t forget to also look up/work with your local kitchen/homeless shelter.
Happy Planning!
**I originally heard about this idea in a winter intersession class I took: Special Event Planning. I needed an extra credit hour and I was recently engaged, so I was like why not take the class?! The “teacher” was a pro event planner and knew all the ins and outs of making an event successful. I especially liked this tid bit she gave about always considering those in need when planning events. Even if it seems like a small detail to you, simply asking to have the leftover food donated to a local kitchen can mean not going hungry for a man and his two children. Anyways, I have yet to be presented with an opportunity to put this tid bit to use (until my own wedding rolls around of course), so if any of you have any experience doing something like this, please share!
